It’s how you set the sails
IT’S HOW YOU SET THE SAILS
Written by AnkhA Bukara
Years ago I heard someone, who had done very well financially, say: “The wind blows over us all. It’s how you set the sails.” He had learned and put in practice how to earn a lot of money and taught this to other people.
You can ‘set your sails’ in all directions of life. Body, mind, spirit. Physically, emotionally, personally, spiritually, and other –allys ;-). It is never too late to start. Even when it is the last day of your life that you realise something: You did realise it and you will take it with you into your next life.
Sometimes it can be a little bit much to cover all layers. Well, you can focus on one layer, for example, you can start with the physical one. You might improve your diet. You might start eating breakfast. You might start jogging, going by bike instead of by car. You might drink enough each day. You might start to do some yoga. Whatever you do will improve some kind of awareness. You will experience what it will do with you, where you will find your boundaries and would like to stop since you start to feel uncomfortable.
Well, that is where the real growth starts: yes, where you start to feel uncomfortable. You have come to a point that something is about to really change. Even when it is slightly changing, you will have to get used to it. Integration of this slightly changed habit might evoke reactions of others. Sometimes they might be encouraging, however, sometimes they might be less encouraging or even making you want to stop right away.
It is comfortable to keep doing the same thing, act or react the same way. You got used to your own behaviour. So did others. When you decided you wanted to grow, change, transform a part of your life, the key is in keep doing it. If you want to cut down on sugar, you can rigorously do this or step by step.
When you tell yourself: “I won’t be able to stay with it, so I better not start,” you can stay where you are now comfortably and not growing. It might not be the right time, although a lot of times you can create ‘the right time’ by changing our mindset.
Set your sails: When you sail and the wind blows in another direction than when you started it, you simply alter the positions of the sails. You can teach yourself how to do that and if you can’t figure it out, ask someone. You can do this in your daily life as well. Use the sails as a symbol for altering parts of your behaviour, your mindset, your habits. Keep doing it, so you will give yourself the time and the possibility that it will become a part of you.
Nobody on earth only gets the good stuff. We all will be in situations we do not like. We all have our own process. We will have to go through difficult situations. How do you deal with it? What do you do with it? The choices you make will help you to experience the same situation differently.
So: “The wind blows over us all. It’s how you set the sails.”
Let every step by Light(er)
